Aylesbury Town Centre Case Study

BACKGROUND
Buckinghamshire Council is a recently formed entity, comprising of the areas that were previously administered by Buckinghamshire County Council, including the districts of South Bucks, Chiltern, Wycombe and Aylesbury Vale.
Upgrading their CCTV system to meet changing and future demands was a high priority project for the Council's Security Team.
PROJECT INITIATION
With our track record for enabling organisations to manage the evolution of their surveillance schemes from ageing analogue behemoths to complete digital solutions, Buckinghamshire County Council invited us to tender for their CCTV upgrade project.
The brief represented the start of their transition from analogue to digital, with the replacement of the Central Control System. Over 20 years old, the archaic system could no longer be updated and was not fit for the purposes.
The strategic map for the Council's analogue to digital transition was a hybrid solution, allowing for the maximisation of the existing analogue infrastructure, followed by the phased implementation of new digital units over time. This approach would achieve the project goals whilst staying sensitive to the resource and wider financial goals of the Council.
Our team conducted a detailed analysis of the solutions on the market and identified a system that was robust enough to work with the existing hardware, as well as providing a future-orientated central hub for the council.

DELIVERY
Collaborating with trusted partners always makes the project a lot easier to deliver. From an early stage of our analysis, we were able to factor in the inclusion of Genetec’s Security Management Software.
Already deployed in the surrounding county boroughs of the Thames Valley, their solution is used to view and control CCTV cameras as well as alarms and access control equipment if required.
The new Central Control System provided a unified platform that blends IP video surveillance, access control, and license plate recognition systems within one intuitive solution. It also offers multiple interfaces or plug-ins that allow integration with SIP enabled intercom systems, intrusion panels, and many other security sub-systems.
Security Teams are granted a greater level of awareness and decision making through several levels of automation for actions and events.
Using the event-to-action mechanism, the operator can create sophisticated rules to manage incidents received by the Central Control Unit, such as generating alarms and sending email notifications. All events and alerts are also stored in the Security Centre, to facilitate video archive searches.
Importantly, it also integrated multiple Video Analytics software and hardware seamlessly. This allowed us to integrate existing scheme assets and cherry-pick technology that supported existing and future requirements.
PROJECT COMPLETION
Working closely with the Councils Security Team and Genetec, ensured minimum disruption to the system and their wider operation during the transition over to the new Central Control System.
We are now liaising with Buckinghamshire on the next stage of their digital journey.
